State Fair 1994 from Alma How can it be half a lifetime ago when the memory is still so vivid. As I sat on my friends show box shuffling a deck of cards, you and your friend passed by several times, each time smiling and giggling and watching me out of the corner of your eye. All it took was asking if you would like to see a card trick. Such a simple trick along with some flirting and your smile had me hooked. Time flew by so fast that we spent the rest of the afternoon talking and laughing right up until curfew. I couldn't wait to see you the next morning. I was only there to help my buddy with his show steer later in the week. You were there for a pageant to model the red dress that you made. Never in my life would I have thought that I would sit through a talent show / beauty pageant, but I did. I have to confess, it was pure agony and torture. At first because because most of the show was boring. Then you came on stage and I was completely stunned. I have to admit, that dress fit you perfectly, hugging your beautiful curves, it truly was a scene from a man's dreams. Your eyes never left mine until you left the stage. The rest of the show was the real torture. I just sat there thinking "Wow!" My heart jumped when you finally emerged from backstage. I can't even describe the feelings you created. To this day I don't remember ever feeling the way you made me feel when we were talking and laughing. You asked me to go ice skating with you. I remember thinking "whatever, as long as I get to spend time with you". So we laced up the skates and headed for the ice. I had never gone ice skating so I hesitated while you so gracefully made your way out onto the ice. Of course I tried to show off, but guess what? I can't ice skate. Not even a little. You were laughing but I didn't find it so funny sliding the length of the rink on my back after you gave me a push. I crawled my way to the wall and had to hang on for life just to make it back to the rink entrance. It was a good thing that it was hot outside because I was soaking wet and frozen by the time you were done laughing and skating. The mild hypothermia was worth it though. After that the time spent with you only got better. As a gentleman, I'm not going to kiss and tell, but let's just say that I will never forget that steamy hot summer night that you spent in my arms. Although Chesney's song, "Anything but mine" didn't come out until a decade later, the minute that I heard that song it took me back to that week spent with you. To this day it still does the same. I wanted so desperately to be with you, but being so and so much distance between where we lived, it didn't take long to lose contact. For that I'm sincerely sorry. Maybe it's because I like to reflect on all of the good that I've had in my life, but I think of you often and wonder where you are, how you're doing, if you've lived your dreams. I have no delusions that this message will find you, but, I just wanted to say thank you for that beautiful memory. Wherever you are, I hope you have found love and happiness.
